Barratt back the armed forces

As part of newly released Government money, Barratt London is urging local Armed Forces personnel to sign-up for a new scheme called FirstBuy, which is designed to give first time buyers a route to home ownership at the lowest possible cost and with the lowest possible deposit. The Government-backed initiative

formally gives priority to men and women who have served in the Forces. Barratt London is topping up the offer for servicemen and women by giving them £500 of furniture vouchers for every £25,000 they spend on the house. And the housebuilder has set-up a special Armed Forces hotline for any personnel who are interested. “In normal circumstances it can be very difficult for men and women who have served in the Forces to buy a home of their own because of the difficulty of raising a deposit and getting a mortgage,” said Gary Patrick, regional sales director for Barratt London.

“But this initiative means that first time buyers in London now have the chance to move into a new home with a deposit of as little as £6,700. Barratt has been supporting the Armed Forces for many years by offering discounts on our homes and making donations to the Help for Heroes charity. Homes are getting more expensive so people

Final stage of Regent Quarter development

Work has begun on the final stage of Regent Quarter, at London’s Kings Cross, by Istithmar P&O Estates. Henderson Global Investors, on behalf of its c.£700 million Central London Office Fund, has entered into a joint venture with Istithmar P&O Estates for the final phase of the scheme known as Block D, which has detailed planning consent. The development will retain period character whilst introducing contemporary, modern design and working standards to once redundant buildings. The detailed planning consent allows for a new BREEAM Excellent office building of 35,600 sq ft (3,307 sq m), 39 new residential apartments, restoration of a two storey Grade II listed horse stable to offices and three retail/A3 units. The acquisition by Henderson also included a

former multi-storey book warehouse on the corner of Railway Street and York Way. A planning application has recently been submitted to The London Borough of Islington to convert this building into a further BREEAM Excellent office building of some 35,000 sq ft (3,252 sq m). Graham Corser, Development Director at Istithmar P&O Estates says, “We have been involved with the regeneration of this area of London for over ten years and are looking forward to completing the transformation with the backing of Henderson. Throughout this time, we have seen a tremendous change to the King’s Cross area; now the most connected transport hub in London. This final phase of Regent Quarter will cement the area as a vibrant, urban environment, where the outstanding transport services make it easy to travel within London, the UK and now Europe with the Kings Cross St.Pancras Eurostar services.” Demolition has commenced and support

scaffolding is starting to be put in place. Construction should commence in November this year. Letting agents for the scheme are JLL and Cluttons whilst Savills are appointed for the sale of the residential units.
