the shelters. If you get caught riding the supervised trails without a pass, you could be facing fines of $400 or more. Last season over 19,200 snowmobiles

registered with a Snopass! Tis seasonal activity is one that avid snowmobilers are very passionate about, taking pride in Manitoba’s designated trail system. “We enjoy the excitement of being on the trails, meeting up with old friends and making new ones at the many shelters, while engaging in planned events or a casual ride,” says Alan. Not only do designated trails provide

excellent opportunities to interact with other snowmobilers, they are the saf- est way for riders to enjoy the sport. Groomed trails reduce trespassing on private property, provide dollars to rural businesses reliant on winter tourism, and have an economic benefit of more than $300 million annually for the province of Manitoba. If you think you’d like to try the trails

this year, or are here visiting and forgot to pack your sled, you can rent a snow- mobile for a day, a week or even lon- ger! One stop for snowmobile rentals is snowmuchfun.com. Rentals include a trailer, helmets with heated visors, trail passes and maps, all insurance and un- limited mileage. When hitting the trails remember,

FIVE WINTER WONDERS IN WINNIPEG

1. The Assiniboine Park duck pond is a longtime favourite for families to strap on their skates for an afternoon of gliding about. Washrooms are located onsite and the warming shelter is ideal for sharing a cup of cocoa.

2. FortWhyte Alive offers several trails for hiking, cross country skiing or snowshoeing, and don’t forget to bring your toboggan to race down the Richardson Run. It’s a screaming good time.

3. The Forks is always a great locale for enjoying the outdoors with the convenience of indoor shopping and restaurants nearby. Fun times are had by all at the Arctic Glacier Winter Park which is festively lit in the evenings for your enjoyment. Filled with fun activities to investigate such as the snowboard fun park, toboggan run, Great-West Life Interactive Ice Castle, 1.2 km of trails and, of course, lots of skating! Skate under the canopy at the Forks, on the Olympic-sized skating rink located adjacent to Scotiabank Stage or down The Forks River trail. Skate rentals are available.

4. Many of our local parks are filled with excellent cross-country skiing trails. Check out Kildonan, St. Vital and La Barrière park as well as the Windsor Park Nordic Centre.

5. Ok, so technically this one is out of the city, but just. Adrenaline Adventures offers a slew of outdoor activities from snow tubing and snowboarding, to Xorbing. You’ve got to try it!
