By Christopher Schriever Customatic Adjustable Bedz is introduc- ing a number of new fabric, color and de- sign options that will be available on se- lect models of the company’s adjustable bases. This introduction supports Custom- atic’s philosophy of fostering close col-
to reflect the varied target demographics our retailers are working to attract,” said Customatic Adjustable Bedz Partner, Phil Sherman. “The current state of the mar- ket tends to see oversaturated styles that are truly commonplace. We want to move the category forward with the next gen- eration of clever styles and designs for our adjustable bases.”
Customized designs and exclusivity are
two effective ways for retailers to set them- selves apart from the competition. Custom- atic’s new adjustable bed base materials include fashion forward textures and pat- terns such as tweed, herringbone, micro-
Malouf Continues its Rapid Growth
By Gretchen Kast In order to accommodate a rapidly expand- ing product portfolio and rising sales num- bers, Malouf has acquired a new facility to allow for faster shipping and more manufac- turing space. As Malouf takes the reins of the 675,000 square foot building, the company’s domestic reach expands to more than one million square feet of warehouse space, more than double what it had previously. Located near its Utah headquarters, the new building will work to reinforce Malouf’s Logan, Utah and Lenoir, N.C. warehouse lo- cations and adds another layer of support to ensure optimal product distribution. Follow-
ing suit with the company’s constant growth, the addition comes right in time to fill its growing product line. “To better serve our customers and to be poised for growth, we needed more space,” said Mike Douglas, the general manager at Malouf. “In the last few weeks we hit some large sales and production milestones. In addition, we have nearly 1,000 new product SKUs planned for the next year so it’s not hard to guess the reason we chose to double our warehouse space.” The company is adding to an already di- verse portfolio of bedding accessories. At the spring High Point Market, Malouf unveiled in- novative new additions to its popular Z Pil- low collection. The Zoned Dough + Bamboo Charcoal pillow combines the benefits of bamboo charcoal-infused memory foam with advanced thermal regulation to offer supe- rior comfort for sensitive skin. The Zoned Gel Dough pillow provides superior cooling com- fort, airflow and support by enhancing its Gel Dough memory foam with Zoned technology.
The new warehouse acquisition allows Malouf to not only expand its manufactur- ing, but its customer service. The build- ing (which was owned by La-Z-Boy until 2008) has close ties to the furniture indus- try and is located close to major transit lines, which will solidify Malouf’s same-day shipping promise.
At the end of August, Malouf announced the beginning of the largest production cycle to date by manufacturing more prod- ucts at one time than ever before. Just one week later, Malouf had its best sales week, contributing to its best month and best quarter since its inception. Put simply, Malouf is growing—a lot. “We are excited to have Malouf join the community,” said Mitch Zundel, the eco- nomic development director for Box Elder County—the county where Malouf’s new building is located. “They have already been great to work with and we look forward to what is to come.” Visit
