Food News October 2014 Hogarths celebrating 10 years
In April 2004, Helena Hogarth bought what she described as 'a run-down' bed and breakfast with eight bedrooms in Dorridge. Fast forward 10 years and it has flourished into what is now named Hogarths – a 49-bedroom luxury hotel, wedding venue and restaurant boasting four coveted AA stars.

Helena has transformed not only the hotel itself, but also the 30 acres of woodland site it nestles in. Gradually the number of bedrooms increased to 10, then 12, 15 and 19 before attention was turned to the Victorian gardens, all of which had also been allowed to fall into a poor state. Helena oversaw their restoration, reclaiming areas that had been previously been inaccessible. 2011 saw plans to extend the main buildings adding a restaurant and reception area along with 30 new bedrooms, bringing the
number to 49. In those 10 years the number of staff has also grown from three to around 140 led by general manager, Steve Quick.
Helena explains that plans for the next decade are to ‘continue to provide a high quality service to the guests – and to turn the four black AA stars into red ones’, something that would confirm her hotel among the very best in the UK.
To mark the 10th anniversary Hogarths is hosting and catering an evening of dinner and entertainment in aid of Solihull-based Brain Tumour UK, run by Andy Foote who lost his son Joseph to the disease. All money raised from ticket sales will go to the charity. It takes place on Friday, October 24 and tickets (priced £45) are available from the hotel.
