In Hello Carter you play Aaron who sends Carter on somewhat of a wild goose chase. What do you think people will most like about the film, because it’s had some great reviews? Anthony made a film that is intelligent, but doesn't forget to be enjoyable. He's an amazing guy, a serious filmmaker who's worked in every position on a film set and will be making great pictures for a long time. I say that as a friend, but mostly as a collaborator, he knows what he's doing.
You’ve also written and directed. Do you prefer life behind the camera or in front? It's sort of project to project. There're no generalisations I could make. The writing and directing is something that has to come out of you. Acting in a film is a big commitment, but directing is a larger one. If you give a shit, it takes over your life.
Are you picky about which roles you do? Absolutely. How could you not be? You pour yourself into it. Often it takes you away from your loved ones. These days your image, on the net and various media platforms is proliferated in exponential ways. As much as you can be,

I think you've got to be careful how much of yourself you give away. It's like shark's skin, slick one way and pretty rough the other. It's easy to get your face out there, hard to get it back.
You’ve been described as a thinking actor – very flattering! Would you agree with that description? It's funny. I'm always trying to come up with ways to think less. Acting should be about doing, shouldn't it? Whatever it is I just wanna be as free as Jack Lemmon is in The Apartment. I see him strain the spaghetti with a tennis racket and he's a genius, physical and funny without over-thinking. That's the sweet-spot.
How does it feel to see your name up in lights and on billboards? It's happened a few times before. Once for Bright Star I was doing a Q&A after a screening in my hometown. As I was walking up to the theatre I saw my name in lights on the marquee and I thought to myself, "What's wrong with me? I know this is supposed to make me feel good." I dunno… It was never my intention to see my name in lights.
