TV PROPERTY HUNTERS
Our mostly recently fi lmed run of A Place in the Sun: Winter Sun came at an exciting time in the overseas property industry, with slashed prices across our favourite markets and dozens of opportunities. It’s not surprising that many of our TV property hunters snapped up a new home almost instantly and have never looked back, reports Liz Rowlinson
Where are they now?
“Our Lanzarote apartment has gone up by €10k already”
Liz and Grahame Pink from Ware in Hertfordshire bought the fi nal property they were fi lmed viewing in Lanzarote with Jasmine: a one-bed apartment on a complex in the popular resort of Puerto del Carmen for €55,500. Here, Liz, 57, who works for a housing association, takes up the tale.
“We used up our life savings to pay for the apartment which is located above the estate agency we bought through – Atlantico Homes. It was
them that suggested we take a long-term rent. Our tenant pays €500 a month but aſt er management expenses we net about €320, which covers our costs. Ironically we have been out three times since and we’ve had to stay somewhere else! But we bought at the bottom of the market and we reckon we’ve made €10k already on the value, and we are learning about running costs prior to our retirement. T e programme was brilliant – we were screen-tested at the Olympia show then we followed advice from this magazine about using a foreign currency exchange broker and our own lawyer.”

“We want to spend every winter in our Caribbean home”
IT consultant Bob Roberts and his wife Annette from Chiswick, west London, bought the second property they viewed in Grenada for £215,000. Here Bob, 56, explains...
“We bought a three-bed house on the golf course at Grand Anse, in the parish of St George, in south-west Grenada. T e buying process took a fair old time – four or fi ve months – but we’ve been out three times, including the whole of August with our two daughters (aged 16 and 22, pictured leſt with the family). T e TV programme was really useful and it was such a good time to buy in Grenada, with the market near the bottom. Annette is retiring sometime next year [from her job at the BBC Archives] and aſt er that we intend to try and spend every winter out there and become snowbirds.”
