PROPERTY HUNT modern villa

in Bodrum handy for the new marina, for around

The trendy Turkish resort has caught the eye of celebs such as Bill Gates, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mick Jagger. But what might the Edwards family from Manchester buy there for their budget of £350-400k? Quite a lot, reports Richard Way

W

hen Glynn and Melanie Edwards decided 2014 was the year to buy a holiday home, there was only one destination in the running – the Bodrum Peninsula. An upmarket corner of Turkey,

known for its picturesque resorts, boutique marinas, and celebrity appeal, the Bodrum area has provided numerous memorable holidays for the Manchester couple and their two girls, Robyn (19) and Hope (15). But they’ve had enough of renting and are ready to purchase their own Bodrum home. “We know the diff erent resorts and have been

casually browsing property for a year or two,” said Glynn, a sales manager at an electronics fi rm. “So we know what we want. Somewhere like Yalikavak would be ideal - not too large, just 15 minutes from Bodrum town, its smart new 710-berth Palmarina complex complementing the traditional restaurants around the old harbour, and of course stunning views and sunsets.” Other resorts the Edwardses would consider

include Gumusluk, Bitez, Gundogan and Turkbuku. Together with Yalikavak and Bodrum Town, these are popular with wealthy Turks as much as foreign buyers and include some of Turkey’s most sought-aſt er second homes. Sightings of the international jet set, oſt en on

board their super-yachts or on the dance-fl oor of one of Bodrum’s hip nightclubs, aren’t uncommon. Unsurprisingly, contemporary villas nestled on hillside plots are de rigueur - and it’s one these that the Edwardses have their hearts set on. “T e basics are we want a modern villa with a

private pool and a short walk from amenities,” continues Glynn. “I see us using the property at least three times a year, but our plan is to rent it out once we’ve enjoyed it for a season. T e peninsula has huge appeal for holidaymakers and the balmy climate means the rental season is relatively long. Bodrum is an internationally popular area and has lots going for it, so I see a property there as good for long-term investment.” For Glynn, owning near a marina has another

appeal: “Further down the line, I’d certainly consider getting a boat, which would make visits there even more fun!”
