charges rise to ensure maintenance of quality. It is such a shame that the same could not be said of Salaries.

To receive that quality of food, I still believe it is an economical price to charge and pay. I could not cook a three course meal for under £4 to the standard of which is provided by ISS.

It seems reasonable however I think the introduction of CRL has removed the sense of ‘community’ for single personnel living in SLA, and it’s harder to make friends.

Everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment as prices of food are increasing. Wages just don't cover it what once was a £20-£30 a week shopping bill is now more like £50-£60. I understand why they have increased the food charge however pay needs to be increased to cover this.

Yes I think it is fair to increase the food charge as there is nowhere else that you would be able to get such high quality and standard of food for that price. On the other hand I don't think it is fair to increase the price when we have no other option than to pay it and especially when the increase is so high in comparison to the minimal pay increase.

I live in SFA. No improvements have been made to my quarter in the past 3 years I have lived in it. The bathroom and kitchen are falling apart and yet I am expected to pay more for it.

I am under no illusion that SFA is a massively cheaper alternative to private rented accommodation or even a mortgage but most SFA are nowhere near the standard of the private rented or properties that you would buy. I have no problem with the increase in SFA if I am going to benefit from it and if the quality of SFA is going to increase as a result.

The comments reflect that many people are quite ready to pay more for their accommodation, if the standards were first to improve. We have reported the same comments year on year from our previous surveys.

AND SOME OF YOUR COMMENTS… While there will be much gnashing over the apparent disparity in the % increase for accommodation V’s the % increase in salary, as per food, it is an appropriate increase. Again, where the problem lies, is that while it is argued that charges should rise in line with inflation, disingenuously, salaries haven't. Thus it represents a further cut in salaries administered by stealth.

A difficult one, if the quarters were renovated with decent carpets etc I would be more than happy to pay much more but the state some are in isn't worth an increase.

SFA quality and maintenance provision does not warrant a rise above that given for pay.

Provided the accommodation is up to scratch!

The increase in rent and the low pay rise means we are saving less and less towards a home for life after the Forces.

Still exceptionally cheap even with the 2.2% increase compared to civilian rent charges.

AND SOME OF YOUR COMMENTS… Sorry, I don't feel valued anymore.

This pay award was what I was expecting so, no it’s not a factor in considering leaving the RAF

. However there are lots of other things that are making me seriously think about leaving. Envoy Autumn 2014 29
