Perthshire and Fife offer some picturesque views, especially from 3,000ft with the pilot and founder of Alba Ballooning
WORDS PETE FORSTER B
allooning is defi nitely one of the best ways to see the eastern part of Scotland. The low hills and fl atter areas of the east provide the perfect place for ballooning and the variety of scenery makes this
region unique. Loch Leven and the two Lomond Hills are particular landmarks we point out to our passengers. We quite often run fl ights up towards the Ochil Hills near Glenfarg, which has very striking topography, and also along Strathearn and Strathallan way, where the meandering river is a great attraction. Sometimes we fl y out of Bridge of Earn and head up towards Methven along the side of Perth, which is a bit more of an unusual route but still equally as scenic.
The landscape is very mixed in these two counties; you’ve got crops, fi elds of pasture and numerous silage fi elds so it’s very diverse, which makes it even more interesting from the air as every few minutes it’s almost like a different view appears.
