WELCOME to the July edition of Architect’s Choice. I’m back in the saddle talking all things architecture and getting geared up for the London Design Festival in September. What are you looking forward to during the event? Are you exhibiting? If so, tweet us @Architect_News and let us know your whereabouts. We’ll make a beeline for you in September! This issue we are discussing the subject of copycat architecture with particular emphasis on the Shard and the recent influx of similarly shiny builds. The Shard is certainly a thing of personal taste, you either like it, or you
don’t. Saying that there seems to be a popularity for shard-esque styles that are flooding the city. Our panelists all have their take on the situation and you can read more about it on pages 12 – 14. Our interview with Guy Hollaway touches on the idea of passing the architectural torch so to speak, empowering our young design minds with the tools and knowledge to go forth and create wondrous builds for our future. Much of the issues emphasis is on the future of design and build, which is a vital consideration when creating any new structure or indeed regenerating the old. Guy Hollaway crops up again in our sustainable supplement to share with us his plans for updating coastal towns and protecting the areas through carefully considered architectural planning. As an architect, are you concerned with your own town environment? Is regeneration at the top of your priority list, or should it be?
