Contracts +projects ART DECO IN BOSTON

Armourcoat exhibited at the May Design Series, where many of the company’s modular wall panels were on display. ArmourFX modular wall panels were recently specified within the stunning refurbishment of an original Art Deco tower in Boston’s financial district by Elkus Manfredi Architects of Boston. The building, renamed ‘50 Post Office Square’ sees the most significant changes occur on the ground floor, where many of the building’s original features include its high ceilings and the Maine granite that lines many hallways. The ground-floor lobby, designed by Elkus Manfredi, features a new exterior glass lobby, the interior of which has been clad in large-scale ArmourFX modular wall panels from Armourcoat Surface Finishes Inc. In total 170 panels were created, most with unique dimensions to completely line the walls and create a stunning decorative effect. Armourcoat’s high gloss Venetian plaster finish, called Spatulata, was hand-applied to the ¾” MDF panels (all class 1 flame retardant) and then simply hung on site using ‘Z’ clips. www.armourfx.com

VILLAGE AMBITIONS

The Athletes’ Village, Stratford, East London, is one of the most ambitious new urban developments in the UK, forming part of the Stratford City Masterplan. Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris architects, the six storey Athletes’ Village Car Park, which was erected for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, now becomes a valuable parking facility for new and prospective residents of the Athletes’ Village. Levolux was invited to help develop an unusual and highly bespoke external screening element to be applied to each elevation. The solution comprised a total of 627 fixed, aluminium aerofoil-shaped Fins, fixed vertically around the perimeter of the car park. The Fins, each measuring 600mm deep by 50mm thick and up to 2.6 metres in length, are formed from four extruded aluminium components. While three of the extrusions have been given a silver anodised finish, the remaining extrusion has been given a distinctive coloured and highly durable powder coating. www.levolux.com

PUT ON A GOOD SHOW

Milton Court, Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s state-of- the-art facility, houses a 608-seat, world-class Concert Hall, a 227-seat theatre, a Studio Theatre, a television studio and three rehearsal rooms. Stage Electrics supplied, installed and commissioned the lighting, audio and video systems venue-wide, including dimmer racks, data distribution, paging and show relay, plus custom-manufactured stage management desks, facility panels, lighting bars, ‘raceways’ and loose equipment. Limited space presented a major consideration. Stage Electrics responded with tailor-made solutions for each venue, encompassing special requirements such as the acoustic needs of the Concert Hall, the varying degree of technical ability of the users and flexibility demanded of each space, and used comprehensive market knowledge to supply high quality equipment in the final stages ensuring students receive the best and latest available. +44 117 937 9654 | www.stage-electrics.co.uk federica.corsaro@stage-electrics.co.uk
