LONDON CALLING
THE MAY DESIGN SERIES HAS GROWN IN POPULARITY AND STATURE THIS YEAR, BRINGING TOGETHER THE DESIGN COMMUNITY FOR THREE INNOVATION FILLED DAYS OF IMPRESSIVE DESIGN CREDENTIALS
Following a successful debut in 2013, May Design Series returned bigger, better and brighter than ever this year. Attracting over 10,000 key buyers from the UK and internationally, May Design Series successfully united the contract and retail communities for three days of good business across architecture and design.
With over 400 British and international exhibitors taking part across five design districts including DX, Lighting (including ARC), Kitchen + Bathroom, Decor and a preview of The Furniture Show, the show offered something for any project or budget, and served every interior space. Just a few of the companies exhibiting at the show included Chapel Street, Gwinner International, Justin Van Breda, Innermost, Ligne Roset and Riva 1920. The show itself was a vibrant explosion of colour thanks to Ab Rogers, who designed the key feature areas including the entrance, Conversation Series theatre and VIP Lounge. something to grab your attention, be it the engaging seminars, the Materia exhibition, DX Freight, or the dazzling Fabric Pavilion. Crucially, this year there was an abundance of new products and exhibitors, showcasing their latest concepts and bringing the design community together. In addition to welcoming major players such as Natuzzi and PP Mobler, May Design Series was the perfect place to unearth some hidden gems. The event is a keen supporter of young talent in the design industry, and is home to the New Design Britain Awards. This year the show hosted a retrospective gallery, looking back on ten years of championing the finest young talent. There was also the Designer Makers feature, a series of stands hosting small companies which design and make hand crafted, bespoke pieces. May Design Series was frequented by a high quality audience of industry professionals, including Vanessa Brady OBE of SBID who commented, “SBID were delighted to partner with this year’s May Design
Series…The show was a celebration of each interior space with innovative design and outstanding new products – it’s great to have a London event serving the interiors industry that we can all be a part of.” Tricia of Tricia Carroll Designs agreed saying, “I have been impressed by the quality of suppliers and it’s great to see a selection of lighting and decorative designers exhibiting. That paired with the exhibition lay out and how easy it is to get to ExCeL – it’s been a successful trip.” In short, May Design Series is looking like it will soon become the show to put London on the map. Set to grow in size again in 2015 following the full scale relocation of the now defunct January show at the NEC to join May Design Series, the event truly is the UK’s definitive furnishings fair; providing the capital with a platform to compete with its European counterparts.
The 2015 edition of the May Design Series returns from 17-19 May.
