They are swinging in the ….! Hopefully, it is not the ducks

doing it in the weather they like best, but rather golfers from far and wide, at the 29th Rotary Am-Am at Dunblane New Golf Club on 28 June.

This event, held every year since 1985 (with the exception of a very wet 2012!), has raised over £300,000 for Strathcarron Hospice. Teams of golfers from across Scotland, male and female, young and older, and with varying levels of skill, compete for many prizes, kindly donated by local businesses and individuals.

Apart from individual and team prizes, there is the “yellow ball game” where each team has to use a yellow ball for the entire round, with each team member playing the ball in rotation. The prize goes to the team with the lowest aggregate score over the entire round. If it sounds complicated - it is, and the outcome is that signifi cantly less than the original number of yellow balls usually complete the round!!

The main sponsor for the last 15 years has been Farmfoods, who very generously donate the excellent food that is available to all the players on the day as well as covering the running costs of the event, the printing of the programme and tickets and provision of golf balls.

Thanks are also due to the Directors of Dunblane New Golf Club who provide the facilities for the day and to the greens team and the bar and catering staff . The Golf Club ladies along with Rotary members and partners, provide the excellent home baking and tea and coff ees which are enjoyed and appreciated throughout the day by players, helpers, and observers. One of the highlights of these delicacies is Andy Murray’s Granny’s superb shortbread.

There is still an opportunity to enter a team for this fun day. If you are not already involved why not get into the “Swing” on the 28th of June. Use the ‘contact us’ link on the Rotary Club website: www.dunblanerotary. org.uk and we will let you have more details.
