THIS year’s Bearsted and Thurnham Carnival and Fayre will be the 34th anniversary of the event which has gone from strength to strength and raised thousands of pounds for local charities.

It promises to be a wonderful day out on Saturday, June 28 with all the much-loved traditions including a colourful parade to Bearsted Green where there will be a host of family attractions.

In keeping with the nation’s commemoration in 2014 of the centenary of the start of the First World War, this year’s carnival procession and fayre will have the

theme of “Heroes”. However, heroes can be from any time, not necessarily war, and the theme can also celebrate super-heroes, providing plenty of scope for organisers of carnival floats and walking groups to let their imaginations run riot.

This year the two good causes chosen to receive the bulk of the money raised are Bearsted and Thurnham Cricket Club who are seeking to create an all-weather wicket to attract youngsters over a longer season and to revamp the pavilion, and Kent Scouts, for their new activity centre at Lower Grange Farm, Sandling.
