What we're up to... GHBA 1st Quarter Report Card—2014


The GHBA staff is always busy looking for ways to improve member services, advocacy and education. Following is a quick look at what the association has been up to lately.


; Benefit Homes


Virgin Homes is partnering with Waterstone on Lake Conroe on a Benefit Home in Waterstone. The home is under contract and is expected to close in May 2014.


M/I Homes of Houston partnered with The Woodlands Development Company for their Benefit Home in Jagged Ridge in Creekside Park. M/I Homes of Houston and The Woodlands Development Company hosted a Vendor Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, March 21. Representatives from the GHBA, Texas Children’s Cancer Center, The Alzheimer’s Association, HomeAid Houston and Angel Reach spoke to the 50+ vendor guests.


Benefit Homes charities for 2014 are The Alzheimer’s Association of Houston & Southeast Texas, HomeAid Houston and Texas Children’s Cancer Center.


; Membership


Membership continues to grow in 2014. GHBA has added 120 new members and renewed 321 members in the first quarter of 2014.


Extravaganza 2014: GHBA President Leslie King and the GHBA board of directors installed.


; Major Events Extravaganza


The 73rd Annual Extravaganza kicked off the year with a sold out crowd of 450 guests at the Hotel Zaza as we celebrated GHBA’s new President, Leslie King and her board of directors. Harry Masterson, outgoing president, awarded his presi- dential citations to outstanding members who set themselves apart by going above and beyond.


Forecast Luncheon


Mike Inselmann was guest speaker to over 850 guests at the Economic Forecast Luncheon at the Westin Galleria Hotel. He shared the good news of a healthy housing market, banks that are lending to responsible borrowers and good inventory to choose from, with the one negative being the labor shortage that could affect this growth.


; Councils & Committees Remodelers Council


The RMC grew to 285 council members in the first quarter and added 15 remodelers. The GHBA Remodelers Council is the largest Remodelers Council in the country!


The RMC hosted luncheons featuring “GuildQuality’s Blueprint for Service Excellence” by Rebekah Taylor; “How Commodity Prices Are Going To Impact Remodelers & Builders in 2014” by the international purchasing team with Stock Building Supply; and a “TAB Remodeling Contract Overview” presented by Ian Faria with Coats Rose, John Krugh and Karl Wilkerson with Bush|Rudnicki|Shelton.

so far this year and distributed over 3,000 Houston Remodeling Guides to consumers.


Amy Robinson of Fort Bend Publishing, who chairs the RMC Public Relations Committee, coordinated spots on FOX 26 News for three of council members. Remodelers who participated were John Gillette with Craftsmanship by John; Tom Pellegrin of Third Coast Builders; and Stephen McNiel of Creative Property Restoration. A special thank you to Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery for the use of their Richmond showroom to film the segments.


The Council held the 3rd Annual Speed Selling on March 25 with 20 participating associate members and 20 remodelers.


Montgomery County Builder & Developer Division


The Montgomery County Builder & Developers Division started off 2014 by trying to “Unravel the Affordable Care Act.” Another sold out crowd packed in the Landry’s Waterway Room to hear industry leaders in the insurance, healthcare and economics business. A robust Q & A followed the panel discussion which shed light on many of the new laws that will take effect this year and in the future.


Sales and Marketing Council


The No. 1 Sales & Marketing Council in the nation was off to a busy start with the largest Million Dollar Circle in the orga- nization’s history. With 450 guests at the Hotel Zaza, the number of award recipients doubled that of 2012 and the 13 builders and Realtors sold in excess of $4.8 Billion of new homes in our area.


Associate Council


The associates kicked off the year with a “Builder Jeopardy” competition. Two associate member team captains led teams
