“ESSENTIAL” NUGGETS
These limitations can leave a person feeling somewhat depressed or inadequate as they are unable to complete their daily chores and obligations like they used to. Quite unknowingly, a person’s posture often becomes very altered from the ideal when Osteopo- rosis is present.
How does massage therapy benefi t osteoporosis?
The muscles around the bones often suffer from tension and pain due to the extra strain they are under to hold the bones together. Gentle massage therapy helps alleviate this tension. This reduces pain and has added benefi ts like lowering blood pressure. Massage also often makes it easier for the patient to sleep normally due to the relaxed muscles and reduced pain.
How is massage therapy conducted for osteoporosis? Light touch is all that is needed to help muscles relax. Massage
therapists often use oils in their work so their hands slide along the muscles without pushing too hard on the patient. Circular mo- tions also help reduce the amount of force an area of the body is absorbing at any given time. The fi ngertips are also useful tools for a massage therapist, because they knead the muscles and break up muscle knots without pushing down on the bones at all. Bodywork is one of the tools to helping you improve and maintain comfort in life.

Non-Scents Flowers for Mother’s Day! T
hree years ago, I was in NYC waiting for my date, Andrew, to arrive from New Jersey for dinner. That afternoon my phone rang; Andrew had been diagnosed with cancer and needed surgery right away. When I called the hospital they told me I couldn’t send live fl owers because the airborne allergens and bacteria posed a risk to everyone in ICU, trans- plant, and oncology areas of the hospital. Non- Scents became my solution. Our arrangements are made with origami fl owers. Paper scrolls rest within each individual fl ower holding a unique quote or message for the recipient. These messages allow us to give true meaning to each arrangement. We are in the business of lifting up our community and mak- ing people smile so our arrangements are brightly colored and hand-made by refugee women who have found a way to express their creative side while creating a new life here in the USA.
