Volunteering in Mote Park

The Mote Park Fellowship has been working extremely hard running events, and maintaining and improving the park. Our members helped deliver the successful Stargazing Spectacular event in January. By the end of the evening we had over 2800 people through the doors!

One of our members, Simon Ginnaw continues to lead history and wildlife walks and talks. Our Wednesday morning task team has been extremely busy creating wildlife habitats, installing fencing and removing fallen trees. We now have a Mote Park Fellowship office in the park - this is a multifunction building including a rest room for volunteers, classroom and gift shop.

The work and achievements of the fellowship were recognised and

rewarded by Maidstone Borough Council at their recent staff awards, when we received the award for team work, as part of the Mote Park team. In further recognition of our work, the Fellowship recently received a royal visit from HRH The Duke of Gloucester..

As our group continues to grow, so does the amount of work that we are undertaking and we are now looking for new members to join our team. Anyone is welcome to come and join us - we are a completely inclusive group who have a great deal of fun working to improve our wonderful park and delivering events.

If you want to join the fellowship or find out more, come along to one of our volunteer task days. We meet every Wednesday at 9.30am at the volunteer’s office adjacent to the café in the park. For other volunteering opportunities,

Maidstone Borough Council and the Mote Park Fellowship would like to congratulate Endel White on winning the Celebrate Maidstone Volunteer star award for ecology and wildlife. Over the past two years Endel has been instrumental in the development of the Mote Park Fellowship. He has undertaken training to carry out habitat surveys for a variety of flora and fauna, used his skills to help survey the park and has built links with other organisations including the Archbishop Courtenay School where he leads members of the Fellowship with conservation tasks in the school grounds.

Glamour A unique collection of glamorous 1920s and 1930s portraits will be on display for the first time at Maidstone Museum from 17 May to 3 August.

The 1920s and ‘30s were the Golden Age of Hollywood and a vibrant time for London’s West End.

Chronicling the era was R. S. Sherriffs, who drew dramatic stage and film caricatures for magazines such as Radio Times, London Calling and, especially, The Sketch. The Age of Glamour ranges from large star portraits of Greta Garbo and Leslie Howard to ensemble drawings featuring Laurence Olivier and Peggy Ashcroft in Romeo and Juliet and musical numbers from No! No! Nanette.

Accompanying these images is Talons and Tiaras, an exhibition of evening gowns inspired by nature and vintage glamour.

Keep an eye on www.museum.maidstone.gov.uk for details of events to help make the most of this stunning exhibition.
