..Past President Don Frenkel
Don Frenkel’s voice gushes with pride and enthusiasm as he begins to describe the early years of growing up in the Florida panhandle and his 75 years in the Fair industry. “My Dad started the Pensacola Interstate Fair and I have never known anything other than Fair business,” stated Frenkel. “I feel so fortunate to have been given this life.”
Don’s father John Frenkel, Sr. in-
cluded his children in all facets of work- ing at the Pensacola Interstate Fair, which in
the early days
mostly meant cleaning. Don’s father was a visionary in the indus- try and was instrumental as one of the founders of the Fair Class. A forerunner to the
Florida Federation of Fairs, the First
Class was founded to afford other local Fairs around the state the opportunity to exchange and formulate ideas. “I have always been proud and joyful of my father’s accomplishments in the Fair industry...I couldn’t be more happy of my family and their legacy, ” said Frenkel. Finding his niche, Don joined the Pensacola Interstate Fair staff
in 1981 as Assistant Manager to his brother John, Jr., who filled the role as General Manager. During that time he has not missed any of the annual Florida Federation meetings and only has missed IAFE conventions twice. Since joining he has served on every committee and was President of the Florida Federation in 1992. In 2002, a very surprised and grateful Frenkel was elected

to the Florida Federation Hall of Fame. Sadly, six years ago John passed away and Don stepped into the management helm at the Pensacola Fair. His daughter Natalee and son Dondi also work at the Fair with him, as well as his niece Felicia Chivington. In his spare time Don loves to garden, paint and spend time with
his family. Married to wife Delores for 50 years he is also the proud grandfather of five…ranging in ages 6 to 22. Don notes that one of his greatest professional joys occurred
when he was President of the Florida Federation. “I was honored to be part of the team that assisted in re-writing Chapter 616 in Tallahassee. Working along side Darwin Fuchs and John Foster was not only exciting, but exhilarating to know that what we were accomplishing would affect Fairs across our state for many years to come.”
