you remember what it was like to be a music fan before the
advent of mp3 players, iPods and Spotify? Most people had a physical music collection then, filling empty spaces around their house and containing beautiful memories. Tey could say, “I was very lucky I found this one because it was the last copy they had left” or “Te case is cracked because my kid used to climb the shelves.” For many, those times are gone. Many have that precious collection still, but stored somewhere digitally. Whether you’d let go of the warm embrace of a physical format some time ago, or you’ve been keeping the candle alight all this time, there’s an organisation that wants to bring us all together in the name of supporting music: Record Store Day. And it’s coming again, this year on April 19th.

While the RSD-organisation was already founded in 2007, it was in 2008 the very first Record Store Day took place almost everywhere around the Western world. Te purpose is simple: celebrating the culture of the independently owned record store and bringing together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores across the world.
So far, it seems to work. Tis year again thousands of Record Stores will join the celebration, two of them – Prelude Records and Soundclash – are even located in Norwich. But there is even more: hundreds of bands around the world will release exclusives that day, to be sold only at independent record stores. Te releases range from new titles, to compilations, to anniversary albums, and some titles will definitely ring a bell. It seems that this year features a mixture of new releases and re- releases again, definitely with loads to choose from for the vinyl lover. Do you want our advice?
