I write this time. We must say goodbye to a long time friend, amazing supporter, and all around superb horseman Fred Walters. Whether you were a WHAO, OBRA, or saddle club member (just to name a few) you had like- ly met Fred at some time. Once you met him you didn’t forget him. He had as big a person- ality as life and he was never afraid to let you know his opinion on something. He was always right there to lend a helping hand no matter how long he had been working, and almost always knew the right approach to any problem. He was a man I looked up to. Not only because of his height but because of his knowledge and his general view on life. If my life can touch even half the people that his did I will be a lucky woman. Every person you talk to has a different story to tell of Fred. My first memory of him was when I was about 5 or 6. We had gone to look at a pony at their place named Pippin. To a little kid Fred seemed big and gruff. I remember being unsure about this giant of a man but he picked me up and took me over to see Pippin. I was hooked. We ended up buying Pippin that day and went back a week later to pick him up. Fred took us for a tour of their horses and I realized that this big giant was actually a softie in disguise. I will never forget the man that Fred was or the lega- cy he has left behind. Good bye Fred… We will miss you dearly!

WALTER, Alfred (Fred) - Peacefully on Sat- urday November 30, 2013 at the Greater Nia- gara General Hospital in his 74th year. Fred will be sadly missed by his wife Karin (“Vera”) Walter, his daughter Suzy and his very good friend and virtual son Derick Crane. Forever Trails. How do you put a lifetime into so few words? Fred was many things; a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a cook, a truck driver, cow- boy . . . And none of these words describe the man he was. Most importantly he was compas- sionate, witty, a teacher, a friend, loving, kind, a joker and a gentle giant. Fred was not always the easiest man to love, but he loved greatly and so well. He touched more lives than we will ever know. His wife and daughter would like to thank the staff at GNGH, Dr. Rosa and his day nurse Lisa. You made these last few days so much easier. We would also like to thank all
