Congratulations To 2014 OQHA Queen, Miss Mallory Mckewen

On January 18, 2014 Mallory McKewen was crowned the 2014 Ontario Quarter Horse

Association (OQHA) Queen at the annual awards banquet in Guelph, Ontario. The OQHA is very proud to be represented by such a great candidate and Mallory will be visiting venues all season in preparation for competing at The All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio in October 2014. Please welcome us on congratulating her and wishing her luck on her road to the Congress. Mallory is a familiar face in the Quarter Horse ring and will be attending shows in all areas of Ontario this season as well as the Can-am Equine Emporium in Orangeville in March to raise awareness of the OQHA and the Quarter Horse breed. Please come out and meet Mallory, learn about the program and keep an eye out for her updates throughout the year. Thank you to all of our sponsors who make this pro- gram possible each year!

The Ontario Quarter Horse Association is

in the process of planning a learning opportu- nity for horse enthusiasts in 2014! Whether you are looking to attend your first horse show, want to polish your skills for the upcoming show season, or simply interested in learning more about the quarter horse breed, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss! Plans are underway to offer a weekend of

fun, learning and excitement for novice horse owners. The tentative date is July 12th and 13th, 2014 at the Ancaster Fairgrounds. Satur- day will host a number of demonstrations, clinics and a mock show. This is open to all horse owners, and breeds, but our focus will be quarter horse related. Individuals are wel- comed to bring their horses and get assistance with anything related to showing and training, (halter, western and English disciplines). We will be offering a number of demonstrations; from clipping, banding and braiding to proper saddle fit and even hat shaping! There will be a number of clinics offered by AQHA profes- sional Horsemen and women, as well as a mock show to assist novice exhibitors prepare for open/breed shows. An OQHA/AQHA All Novice Youth and

Amateur show will follow on the Sunday, July 13th. This show is opened to anyone wishing to show their registered quarter horse and will be an excellent opportunity for novice exhibitors wishing to try their hand at the AQHA level; while competing against exhibitors with similar skill levels.
