Equestrian Cross-Country Venue for TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games

Mono, ON January 28, 2014 – The rolling hillsides of south-central Ontario will thunder with hooves and ring with the roar of the crowd when the thrilling equestrian cross- country event for the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games comes to Mono on July 18, 2015. “More than 50 of the

top riders from the Americ- as and Caribbean are com- ing to the Town of Mono for this exciting event,” said Saäd Rafi, chief exec- utive officer of

the

TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015). “The all-new course we’re designing and building will challenge the skill of these riders and their horses, as well as

leave a legacy for the sport in Ontario.” Thousands of specta-

tors are expected to attend the one-day cross-country event at Will O’Wind Farm. The Government of Canada is providing fund- ing for the cross-country course, which will be known as the Pan Am Cross-Country Centre for the Games. The course — a Con-

cours Complet Internation- al (CCI) 2 Star (2*) Cham- pionship Cross-Country Course — will be approxi- mately 4.4 kilometres to 5.5 kilometres in length with 30 to 35 jump efforts, such as water features, drops and log jumps. The design by Wayne

Copping, an International Equestrian Federation (FEI)-certified course designer, will meet FEI rules and guidelines.

Cross-country is part

of the three-day eventing competition, which also includes dressage and jumping. All three equestri- an disciplines will be Olympic qualifiers for Rio 2016. The Pan Am Cross- Country Centre is located approximately 30 kilome- tres from the Caledon Pan Am Equestrian Centre where the remaining eques- trian competitions (dres- sage, jumping) will be held in July 2015. “The Government of

Canada is proud to support the TORONTO 2015

Games and the upgrades necessary to create a world-class venue for the equestrian cross-country competition,” said the Hon- ourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport). “Canadian riders have had great suc- cess at past Games, and we look forward to seeing them triumph on home soil just 18 months from now.” Canadian rider and

Olympian Jessica Phoenix of Uxbridge, Ontario, is the defending Pan Am champi- on in the eventing competi- tion. She also won the 2011 Pan Am team silver along

with Selena O’Hanlon, Rebecca Howard, Hawley Bennett and James Atkin- son.

Equestrian, which has

been part of the Pan Am sport schedule since the first Games in 1951, is one of a handful of sports where gender is not an issue and men and women compete equally against one another. “The Pan Am and

Parapan Am Games are providing great opportuni- ties for communities like Mono to shine in 2015,” said Michael Chan, Ontario’s Minister Respon- sible

for the 2015

Pan/Parapan American Games. “Not only will hosting the Games benefit people in communities all across the province, it will establish Ontario as a pre- mier sport hosting destina-

Continued Success for Canada’s Dressage Elite During 2014 Adequan Global Dressage Festival

Ottawa, ON, Jan. 30, 2014 - Canadian dressage riders were a frequent sight on the leaderboard at the CDI- W Adequan Global Dressage Festival (GDF) III, held from Jan. 23-26 in Wellington, FL, USA. Diane Creech of Caistor Centre, ON was the top

Canadian contender in the competition’s most revered class, the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle, which took place on Jan. 24. Riding Devon L, a 14-year-old Hanoveri- an gelding owned by Louise and Doug Leatherdale, Creech took second place on a score of 73.175%. “He was super. I was really proud of him,” said

Creech who has been bringing Devon L along throughout his entire career and has been his sole trainer. “It’s a great atmosphere here and he handled it really well. So I’m really happy.” Creech’s high placing was especially rewarding,

since it was achieved with a brand new freestyle rou- tine, created by Canada’s Karen Robinson of Applause Dressage.
