Improve Your Life with Quality Sleep — without a CPAP Machine!

Now you can wake up truly rested, stay awake and alert throughout the day, and have more energy. Poor sleep and snoring are more than irritations; they could be symptoms of a potentially harmful condition known as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). For years the common treatment for OSA has been a continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, machine.

Recently, the field of dental sleep medicine has created viable alternative oral appliances. Dr. Dinah B. Vice at Sunrise Snore

Center combines her four decades of dental expertise and her understanding of oral appliance therapy to create positive experiences and outcomes for her sleep apnea patients. Medicare and private insurance accepted.

New Ways to Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

T

hrough four decades of practicing dental medicine, Dr. Dinah B. Vice has earned a reputation for providing the highest quality of patient care and professional results. She brings those same high standards to her dental sleep practice, and has devoted significant time to the study of this growing field. She is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. We spoke with Dr. Vice:

OSA is a dangerous medical condition that can be treated and man-

aged. The first step is obtaining a diagnosis. We have the capabilities to screen and diagnose those experiencing symptoms of OSA by means of home sleep testing. Based on test results, we can then discuss treat- ment options. For many years, the most common treatment has been a continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, machine. While it can be successful, the physical limitations of wearing a face mask and managing a breathing tube bedside can cause many patients to reject CPAP therapy or to stop using it after a while. Over the past decade, the field of dental sleep medicine has created viable alternatives for cases of mild to moderate sleep apnea. The most common are mouth guard-like oral appliances such as TAP Elite, Adjust- able Herbst, SleepWell and Full Breath. These custom-fitted appliances gently move the lower jaw forward toward the throat, opening the airway during sleep. This allows the wearer to enjoy restful breathing without snoring or experiencing the dangerous pauses and gasps of sleep apnea.
