Lifelong support

The evolving needs of the military community are still at the heart of everything SSAFA does. Since its creation in 1885, the support and assistance provided by SSAFA has constantly been tailored to meet the changing nature of military life and the changing needs of serving personnel and veterans. However, families have always been at the heart of what SSAFA does and their logo highlights the charity’s commitment to families as well as those who serve.

Other SSAFA services: Voluntary SSAFA

There are some 7000 voluntary SSAFA workers throughout the United Kingdom. All voluntary workers are civilians, many are ex-service people and they undertake home visits and case work making the most of funding from military charities.

SSAFA Norton Homes

The charity runs two properties that allow the families and friends of long-term sick or wounded service personnel to stay close to their loved ones undergoing treatment in Birmingham and at Headley Court.

Family Support Groups

Support Groups help those families touched by tragedy through military service. The Families of Injured Service Personnel and the Bereaved Families Support Groups offer managed, mutual support with meetings taking place around the country.

Forcesline Forcesline is a 100% confidential support service completely independent of the military chain of command available via telephone and the internet. It offers advice and assistance to serving personnel, their families and veterans, dealing with any issues related to service life such as deployment and separation or wider problems such as relationships, bullying, money and alcohol or substance abuse.
