Paris to Linton L

ife for us now at RAF Linton- On-Ouse is a far cry from life this time last year, when I was living in Paris and my new
husband was about to move out of our first home in Cheltenham…
Not three months after our nuptials in June 2012, Adam was posted from Brize Norton, where he was still flying the soon to be retired VC10, to Linton-On-Ouse to become a Tucano Qualified Flying Instructor on 72 Squadron, a place he knows well from his training days!
Meanwhile, I had been awarded a scholarship to the Sorbonne University in Paris to study law with the aim of advancing my career as a solicitor. I remember my friend coming to take me to the train station to start my year away, whilst Adam was still flying sorties in Afghanistan.
We both knew that being away from each other was challenging, especially as this time, I was the one abroad and Adam was the one at home in North Yorkshire. Having probably spent more time apart than together since we met in 2010 however, we were quite used to Adam being away and us both looking forward to the times when we were at home together.
As it transpired however, we found it a little more difficult with me being the one away whilst Adam was busy with flying training and moving in to our first married quarter – after all, I couldn’t do anything to make the place our own via Facetime from France! I did manage to get back a few times, but I would fly in late on a Friday night and have to go back to the airport Sunday lunchtime and so it wasn’t until I was back properly that I started to meet my new friends.
