Quesada Focus

Monthly cycling tips / advice and routes by Gary and Lynn, “Cyclogical” Quesada. Cycle Route 22. Quesada to Rafal.

“Get on yer Bike.”

Leave Quesada and head for Benijofar, turn left at the traffic lights, (cobbled area) cycle downhill for about 300 metres then turn right just before the edge of the town, cycle down past the houses until you come to orange / lemon groves where you’ll find a track through them which takes you to the river.

At the river turn left and cycle over the bridge and down the ramp then go left for about 15 metres where there is a narrow lane, cycle down here until you come to a road. You are now in Formentera. Work your way down through the village until you come to the main road (be careful as there are many one-way streets).

Turn left and cycle out of Formentera on the main road until you come to a camino road on your right (approx 2 kms), take this and cycle it, up and over the bridge across the CV91 Guardamar road and just follow this camino road until you come to the next junction (road to Daya Nueva) where you go straight over following it through some lovely cultivated land, with beautiful views, until you come to the next road where you turn left. Follow this road all the way until you come to Dolores (4 kms). Dolores town square is a lovely place to stop for some refreshments as there are numerous restaurants to choose from.

Continue through the town following the signs for Catral / Crevillente. At the edge of the town you will pick up a cycle track on your right hand side, cycle on this track for about 1km and you will come to a crossroads, on your left in the distance you’ll see a bridge which crosses the AP7 this is what you are heading for. Cycle along this camino until you come to the bridge, go up and

over the bridge and into El Saladar. Follow the road past the houses until you come to a road junction, go straight across here and at the next junction turn left, then first right and follow this lovely camino road right into Rafal. There are a few cafes here to stop at and also a lovely town square and church to view.

Once you have finished head through the village to the edge and you’ll come to a main junction, if you turn right here it will take you to Callosa. Turn left here and head for Benejuzar. As you enter Benejuzar you can turn left at the bridge and cycle back to Benijofar along the river which is a lovely quiet picturesque route, or you can cycle along the road, once at Benijofar you should know your way back from here. Well done. Total cycling time: 4 hours. Total distance: Approx 48 kms.
