Page 10 Television ...................are we there yet?

Well it certainly appears that all channel migration has taken place, (although I cannot find an official press release from ASTRA SES) and we can now say that in and around the Torrevieja area a 1.37 Offset dish appears to be able to receive most, if not all BBC and ITV regional channels. In some areas a 1.2 metre dish is able to receive most channels. I say some areas as this is dependant upon microwave transmission activity from re-broadcast TV and internet providers in those areas. I must say after all the scaremongering we appear to have got off lightly.

Stories of you will lose everything, a 2.4 meter dish won’t get you TV, all appear to be just that, stories.......... Well for now anyway, until we have to sweat for the next Satellite launch Astra 2G. This has been delayed (unusual!) and is now scheduled for 2nd Quarter (May 2014). The purpose of 2G is to take the place of Astra 2A, this will then mean a full replacement of all Astra SES Fleet at 28.2 Degrees. It is thought that channels such as the remaining BBC HD regional channels will be placed on this satellite and the footprint similar to that of Astra 2E & F. If this is the case then it will be happy days in this region of the Costa Blanca for the next 10-15 years we would hope.

Remember if you cannot accommodate a bigger dish then there are other options available to receive your TV. Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is a s system that just requires a good reliable internet connection (speed of 2Mb ideal) and no dish. You can also connect your PC to your TV (newer PCs via HMDI) and look up www.filmon.com where you can view all Freesat channels. Should you want to view Sports try www.cricfree.tv and you can view Sky Sports, BT Sports and more.
