The owner of Jannettas in St Andrews’s love for the town she has lived and worked in all her life is matched only by her passion for ice cream
WORDS NICOLA HAZEL IMAGES ANGUS BLACKBURN I
was born and bred in St Andrews but my life would have been a lot different if my great great grandparents hadn’t made the decision to leave their native Italy in search of a better life.
It was in 1888 that my great great grandfather, Bennett Jannetta, moved
from the village of Atina, nestled in the mountains that overlook Monte Cassino, settling initially in Dysart, which at that time was a bustling port. Several years later he had the opportunity to rent the property on South Street in St Andrews from where, four generations on, we are still trading.
