BIRNAM HIGHLAND GAMES 30 August Games Field, Little Dunkeld, Dunkeld Set amid stuning Perthshire scenery, Birnham has been holding its Highland games each year since 1864. BLACKFORD HIGHLAND GAMES 31 May The famous Blackford Highland Games have been held since 1870 on the park, an area of land leased to the community by the land- owner. A condition of the lease is that the Highland games are held there annually in May. Offering something for everyone, the event includes throwing the hammer, tossing the caber, putting the shot, tug o’ war, athletics, track and field events, dancing with side shows, trade and refreshment stands. www.blackfordhighlandgames.co.uk

PERTH HIGHLAND GAMES 10 August North Inch, Perth Perth Highland Games have gone from strength to strength. The traditional events performed by the heavyweight athletes are throwing weights for distance and height, throwing the hammer and tossing the caber, which are always very popular events. In addition to those events, there is Highland dancing, running for adults and youths, cycling, solo piping, and a very- popular pipe band contest with a large number of overseas bands taking part. www.highlandgames.org.uk


PITLOCHRY HIGHLAND GAMES 13 September Recreation Ground, Ferry Road, Pitlochry One of the very last Highland games of a long season, Pitlochry Highland Games hosts the finals of a number of competitions including Junior Piping League, Heavyweight League and British Tug o’War Championship.
