From the sporting stars competing at Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup to the music fans visiting Glasgow for the MTV Europe Music Awards, our Year of Homecoming 2014 truly has begun. We have every reason to celebrate in 2014 as we welcome the world and grasp the unique opportunity to encourage more and more visitors, both international and domestic, to come and enjoy the very best that Scotland has to offer.
Throughout the year, our jam-packed programme of events will be an inspiring showcase, highlighting Scotland’s cultural, natural and culinary assets and reinforcing our international image as a land of creativity and innovation.

Key events offering something for everyone include a festival to celebrate the life of conservationist John Muir, the 50th anniversary of the Forth Road Bridge, Bannockburn Live in Stirling, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the World Sheepdog Trials, which – featuring 240 competitors from 24 nations worldwide – will be staged in Scotland for the very first time. We are confident that 2014 will build on the success of Homecoming 2009, which attracted nearly 100,000 new visitors to our shores. The exciting programme of more than 630 events covers the length and breadth of the country and will create a huge opportunity for Scotland, boosting our already buoyant tourism sector and the wider economy. Our aim is that the legacy of Homecoming 2014 and two of the world’s
biggest showcase sporting events will be felt for years to come by attracting potential new business or leisure guests and providing more jobs, infrastructure and investment. We are already seeing the benefit of this through the 30,000 jobs supported as a result of the Commonwealth Games. 2014 promises to be an extraordinary year for Scotland and is the chance of a lifetime for everyone to play their part in extending the warmest welcome to guests from near and far.
