NEWPORT teen photogra- pher Ieuan Berry was revel- ling in the success of his de- but photography exhibition this week. The

17-year-old from

Maindee saw more than 70 people attend his first exhibi- tion, High Tide, at Newport Central library in John Frost Square. The St Julian’s sixth-form student said: “I’m really pleased how it’s all turned out – it’s better than I could have imagined.” On choosing the images, he said: “Tristram Booth and Annette Wells helped me pick the final few. I’d say the New- port Wave is my favourite.” Ieuan, who won his camera

in an Argus competition, re- cently discovered that the flash and lens are not work- ing. He hopes the sale of his pho-

tographs for £10 each will raise enough money to repair or replace his camera. Ieuan was given backing by Newport councillors Chris Evans and Debbie Wilcox, who helped him secure the exhibition. Cllr Evans said: “This is a

great opportunity for Ieuan. There’s been a social media campaign inviting people to come along to the show and it’s good that Ieuan has been embraced by Newport. “Over 120 people registered

for the VIP list for the open- ing show and it’s great to see people supporting him.” Ieuan hopes to secure a place at Queen Mary Univer- sity of London or the London School of Economics to study photography next year. The Argus delivery boy also plans to set up a market stall at Newport’s indoor market to display his work. Ieuan is also involved in

a project with the council where he will be supplying them with 100 images of New- port at its best. The show will run until Feb- ruary 30. To see Ieuan’s work, visit
