RIDING club celebrated its firstanniversary by pre- senting members with a


series of awards. Red Kite TREC Group celebrated


its first full year as aBritish Horse Society Riding Club with asocial event whichincluded the presenta- tion of several awards. Club chairman Maxine Nixon


said: “While other local riding clubs tend to offer riders opportunities to compete in showing jumping and dressage events the Red Kite TREC Group offers riders an exciting way to learn newskills and build confi- dence forboth horse and riderwhat- ever their ageorexperience.The riding club has riders who are new- comers to the BHS TREC discipline who have just started to compete right up to one club member,Lynn Davies,who has ridden forthe sen- ior British TREC team at the world championships.” Last winter the club held aseries


of TREC competitions in whichrid- ers and their horses are required to negotiate avariety of obstacles. “BHS TREC develops the skills a


horse and rider needs while out hacking, with three phases testing your ability in orienteering, negoti- ating obstacles and basic flatwork,” added Maxine.


“It reallyisasport foreveryone


and the Red Kite TREC Group regu- larly runs training days to help members develop the necessary skills.”


During the summer Red Kite members entered BHS TREC com- petitions throughout Wales and rankedmembersinto aleague table, whichwas topped by Bridget Stein, with Eifion Roberts second and DorothyHarris third. In recognition of the distance


individual members have ridden in TREC events the club presents rid- ers with ‘milestone’ awards on com- pletion of 50km, 100km, 150km, 250km and 500km. LynDavies and Chris Paine both received their 500Km ‘milestones’. The club also enters teams in Endurance GB’s Riding Club com- petitionsand this year came fifth in the UK Championship and was placed third in the best turned out team competition. Maxine said: “Red Kite TREC


Group is areallyfriendlyclub.Our membership has steadilyincreased over its first 12 months.Wehope to go forward from strength to strength and would welcome new members to one of our taster events.”
