Case Study - Tinaya Muno BA Business Manage

I studied and achieved a 2:1 in my BA (Hons) Business Management with a one- year industrial placement. The modules I did were well structured in equipping me to develop well-rounded practical business skills such as presenting, working in a team, gaining new technical skills, dealing with case studies as well as analysing businesses and markets.

Why I chose to study at Kingston I came up for an open day and I liked how leafy, welcoming, vibrant and multicultural Kingston was and my research helped me establish that Kingston had a top Business School. This really got me excited and I chose Kingston over five other unconditional university offers I had.

After graduation Since graduating I have worked in roles within sales and marketing, which included an internship within a business-to-business (B2B) environment enhancing the selling and marketing of bespoke eLearning content to large and mid-sized enterprises.

I have also founded Liztan S which provides world-class d solutions through innovative s applications. My first mobile- app called StudyKit ProTM w approved by Apple and is ac thousands of downloads world the iPhone, iPod-touch and iPa

THINGS YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE YOUR

PERSONAL STATEMENT By Jessica Luong

Your personal statement, submitted through UCAS, is an important part of your university application. The quality of your personal statement can make a huge difference between securing a place at university. A common mistake students make is to overlook their personal statement. Universities aren’t just looking for good students who can prove themselves academically – they’re also looking for people who can make a difference in the student community.

It is vital that your personal statement distinguishes you from the many other students who are applying for exactly the same course as you. There are certain things you can do which you can write about in your personal statement to make the university admissions officer really sit up and notice.

Volunteering Work

Showing that you are able to balance your studies and employment is valuable

to universities. It suggests you’ll be able to balance your social life with university work. Furthermore, it shows you’re capable of going

beyond what is expected or is compulsory. Your employment history does not have to be strictly related to your chosen area of study. This will show that your interests extend beyond your chosen degree. Try and write about the skills you learnt during your time in employment and how you can apply them to your university course.

Volunteering is a great way to show your dedication to a cause you care about and how you’re willing to work regardless of financial

incentives. However, it is common for many students to mention that they have volunteered in their local charity shop – this may not be enough to make

you stand out from other applicants. Volunteer for a cause which you’re really passionate about, and then write about why you decided to volunteer for this organisation. If possible, try and link it to your course. For example, if you’re applying to study Geography, you might volunteer for an environmental charity because you feel passionate about environmental conservation.

Extracurricular Activities

Doing extracurricular activities shows prospective universities what your interests outside of school are. Popular extracurricular activities include taking part in Debating Society and Sports Clubs. Try and think outside the box - it is advantageous to mention an extracurricular activity which catches the eye of whoever is reviewing your university application process. It is possible to set up your own society in school – get together with a group of

friends, find a common interest and ask a teacher at your school to help you out if need be.

Other things worth mentioning in your personal statement are the reasons why you’ve decided to apply for the course(s); aspects of

INTER

the subject(s) you’re particularly interested in; and what you expect to do with your degree after you graduate. The important thing to bear in mind when writing your personal statement is making sure your prospective universities know what you as a student can bring to the university.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW ROOM 94

Interview by Jessica Luong

Room 94 are a four-piece pop-rock band from London, made up of brothers Kieran, Dean and Sean and their friend Kit. Their lead singer, Kieran Lemon, has a chat with Loud! about touring, his guilty pleasures when it comes to music, and what lies in the future for Room 94…

So you’re a band of three brothers and your friend Kit; how and why did you decide to form? It actually all started a few years ago in 2007. We were in several bands with a few friends, but they didn’t work out. But I asked my brothers and friend to start a

Exclusive Interview

What made you want to tour? I never had the desire before to tour by myself, Djing here and there was cool, but I never had the desire to tour outside of the Peas. But this project and especially the success in my solo project, I think it was an obligation and a new desire. It’s a new excitement to wanna do that. I’m really happy about it.

What is your vision for the tour? I just want to represent the songs and display them in a way that excites the audience and allow them to escape whatever it is that they’ve been doing, for two hours and have something that brings people together and bring joy. I know that sounds corny “I wanna bring joy to people!”

Have you got any surprises for them? Yeah I got some surprises, I gotta keep them surprisable!

What are you looking forward to most about the tour.

I’m just looking forward to just going out there and performing for the first time, with people there to see Willpower and I’m not sharing the stage with a big act, just giving my all in this show to just feel good in the moment.

Will there be special guests? Yeah, but I’mma have to keep it a surprise for now.

Who would be your ideal special guest you haven’t worked with so far?

My ideal special guest?

Yeah. Jimmy Hendrix! (Laughs)

Anyone in the land of the living? Prince.

Fingers crossed for that then! Yeah but I’m trying to be realistic. He’s not gonna be an obvious one.

WILL I AM

band and it all went from there never even played drums when started! But we practised a lot, got to where we are today.

You’re on tour a lot, so you’ve spending a lot of time togethe you ever have any clashes wit

you ever have any clashes wit brothers?

No, not really; we don’t argue, get on together – we’re brothers think the same really.

And Kit doesn’t really say much, really quiet when you meet him!

t him!

Might you be asking Cheryl to pop up for a little bit? I have to keep that a secret.

How have things with Leah (from the Voice) been going since then? Wohoo! Now let’s talk something exciting! Last time I was this excited about a prjoect was when in the Black Eyed Peas and we were like, “We’re gonna do a dance album”. People were like “What?” and I was like “Yeah! We’re collaborating with David Guetta!” People were like “Who’s David Guetta?” He did all that like, electro, this is before we were on top 40 radio everywhere. It’s the same excitement now!

What stage are you at with recording with Leah?

We’re about 80 finished.

How would you describe the type of music? Is it

possibleto sum it up?

I would say

wonderful layers of sonic euphoria (Laughs) How about that one? It’s great stuff. It’s

experiemental, there’s a lot of fusion, pop fusion with layers, and her voice is just spectacular.

What excites you at the moment? Leah’s project, I’m finishing up with Britney. And that’s about it right now.

Seventeen years after The Spice Girls there’s a new feisty force to be reckoned with in the form of up and coming girl group Neon Jungle. Despite the fact that three of these four little firecrackers, Jess (20), Amira (17), Asami (17) and Shereen (16), may not remember a time when myself and a good proportion of the female population, were tying their hair in bunches and arguing tirelessly amongst friends, over who got to be Baby Spice, there is certainly an early Spice-era air to their debut single Trouble.

Punchy, poppy and guaranteed to get stuck in your head, the video for Trouble certainly doesn’t tread cautiously, as the foursome ferociously tear through a suburban house in a high energy haze. Unlike some of their competition, Little Mix and the Saturdays, Neon Jungle steer well clear of the clichéd coordinating outfits and choreographed routines and instead, just as the Spice Girls did, actually inject a bit of personality into their brand.
