How did you decide on the name Room 94? We practiced a lot as a band, in room 94 at school. That’s where the name comes from.
You compare yourself to All Time Low and Blink 182 but who would you say are your biggest musical influences? Well, I’d say all Time Low and Blink 182. That’s who we listened to when we were growing up and their music is why we wanted to start a band in the first place. But we listen to all types of stuff; even One Direction and Drake! We have a real mix of genres in there.
What is your most played song or band on your iPod? I know this sounds lame, but room 94 – yes, I listen to the music my band plays all the time! Why wouldn’t I? I’m producing music which I think sounds good. so I’d say room 94!
How are you feeling about touring with Lawson this October? Very excited – when we toured with them earlier this year, we got on really well with them. We have nights out, hang out a lot and they write really catchy songs; they’re great lads.
Who would be your dream group or singer to tour with? From a business point of view, I’d say one Direction. I mean, you can’t get much better than one Direction, can you? They’re the biggest band in the world right now. We’d be playing to massive crowds. But from a musical point of view, definitely all Time Low. They look like they’d be great fun to tour with, based on their tour diaries, DVDs and music videos.
You have a lot of young fans, what’s the weirdest or craziest thing a fan has ever done? Definitely the craziest thing was when I had a few fans waiting outside of my house. They must have found we lived through the return address that’s printed on the merchandise we send out. But even though we have some crazy fans, it’s better for them to be there, than not be there. Like, we’d rather have intense fans than no fans at all.
How did it feel to reach number 5 on the UK Independent Single breakers chart? Did you expect it? We never really expected anything, so it was definitely a surprise. We had really little promotion. We’re an unsigned band; we had no TV exposure and we made the music video on a really small budget – it was just us making the video ourselves, having a laugh at Madame Tussauds. Our fans are so supportive – obviously we’re really thankful for them to get us at number 5. To get there was good. But next, we’d like to get into the Top 100 singles, or get to number 1 on the UK Independent singles chart.
You seem to be doing a lot of song writing. What are the plans for the next few months; is there a new album to come? We have the Lawson tour coming up. and I’m not really supposed to say this, but we’re also going to be on a support tour with union J, which we’re massively excited about. Their fans are going to be even crazier than Lawson’s; we’re hoping to steal some of their fans! We’re going to record an album before that, which will hopefully be released early next year. We’ve been in the studio having some song writing sessions and recording songs.
room 94’s latest single, ‘superstar’, is out now. They will be touring with Lawson this October.
