in Valley Center. Step into the picture Susie Hutchison who came on board with Sandy to ride and show the horses. Sandy and Susie also worked together at Joan’s. Jeff Katz in Los Angeles had a client, Nicole
Saathoff, who had just imported for resale a green and unruly 6 year old stallion named CANTANO. Jeff asked for Sandy’s help. Sandy felt he should be an Iverson horse so a trade was arranged....a young El Dorado home bred named Audizee, and a bit of money, for CANTANO…he was now in the hands of Iverson-Aston- Hutchison for training. “I felt he should be an Iverson horse since he was difficult but destined to be a super star so we made the deal’” said Sandy The rest of the CANTANO story is pretty well known. After immense success, with Sandy on the ground and Susie riding, he was sold to Meredith Michaels- Beerbaum in Germany. Time now for a break for Sandy and the clothing passion jumped front and center! “I took this opportunity to work with young trainers
here in San Diego County, I really like doing that,” Sandy explains. “But at the same time the dream I had always
harbored of having a clothing boutique seemed to be coming up more and more in conversations.” “So many people cautioned me not to do this boutique
and some even thought I was a bit off my rocker for even thinking about it, BUT I knew it was ‘next’ for me so I jumped in!! I started in this shopping center by sharing space next door at the beauty salon. At first it was just a small selection of what I considered great clothing but it didn’t take long for Aston’s to be a very active place and I took over this current space. It used to be a jewelry store so the fixtures and built in display cabinets work well for me now.” “The biggest challenge for me,” she continues, “is
now being inside just about all the time, but the layout of this store reminds me of the office gazebo I had at the Riding Club so many years ago. I had glassed it in and set it up to work well for me and I think about it a lot when I look out the great windows here.” “I have had a great time educating myself at the LA
Market center in downtown LA but now vendors come to me here at the shop. It’s a lot easier and I like the companionship.” WHAT’S NEXT?? Personally Sandy is enjoying what she considers “real balance” in her life. “I have so many friends from all walks of life that I now have time for. People simply stop by the shop and I actually have time to talk with them. I feel like I am truly part of a community. It’s great social interaction.” “For the store, we are on our way to the 2nd
year and I’d like
to gain an even better feel for what people really want. I plan on more fashion events and fashion shows starting this fall. Last year I was so excited when I received the 2012 New Business Award from the Bonsall Chamber of Commerce. ‘In Recognition of Leadership, Dedication and Superior Contributions to the Bonsall Community’ is what the plaque says.” “As for the horses, Jim Iverson and I are looking for the next horse.
Together we plan on developing some nice young horses at home and then present them properly. Kerri Potter’s experience, knowledge and abilities fit right in for all of us. Since her marriage and her child keep her at home more now, the Iverson-Aston-Potter working dynamic flows gently into everyone’s plans.” “It’s really nice to arrive at the next plateau of life when you get to
relax and have fun with what you have done. It’s still a LOT of work but it’s at a different pace. The store is sort of a community gathering place for a glass of wine or a cold drink…we LOVE having visitors!”◊
