Macella's Corner SUNRISE, SUNSET
earlier each night. Where we live everyone is getting ready for the grape harvest, which pre-

serves the rhythm of an agricultural lifestyle as well as providing all of us with some great smells and beautiful colors. It's easy to see why it's not all that tempting for us to join the fray and pound down the road for shows, week after endless week. When we were starting out in the hunter-jumper industry it was quite a challenge to physically build and develop the stables, but we did it bit by little tiny bit. I used to joke then that I only rode and/or taught every once in awhile since
mostly I worked on fencing, plumbing, construction (which quickly evolved to maintenance), painting, driving trucks and tractors and any other required task. But owning our own place is now an incredible blessing not afforded
ard to believe summer is already starting to wane and fall is almost in the air. The sun is coming up later on these beauti- ful clear mornings and soft twilight comes creeping up on us
too many. Interestingly enough, like the phrase "everyone has the face they deserve by the time they are 50"', after 30 years of owning and working this barn it clearly conveys our priorities and personalities. Here at Diamond Mountain Stables, it's a busy, hectic place, sort of a bee-
hive of activity. Always more horses than stalls, a great young and enthusiastic workforce, horse lovers for customers and unsurprisingly, flourishing horses. Not that any of this in any way undermines our devotion to excellence. Each night when we're home, everybody on the place (including mom!)
comes down to the ring and we break the course down. Then collectively, or following someone's divine inspiration, we all build a new course while run- ning the sprinklers and checking the ring footing. It’s a Diamond Mountain family sort of time. Honestly, after all these years I can hardly wait to get up each morning here
to teach and ride. The excitement and pleasure with these spectacular animals never wanes…it just gets stronger with each sunset and sunrise!!
