HUNTER FINALS FROM A
NEWCOMER’S POINT OF VIEW

there’s nothing like the Junior Hunters.” Granted, this woman was the mother of a fellow rider at an awards banquet, but actually, truer words have not been spoken for me. There is a kind of ‘magical air’ about the Junior Hunter Finals, well actually the Junior Hunter Division in general. Since 2013 was my first time going to Junior Hunter Finals, I did not
know what to expect: who would be there? What would the courses be like? And the question most on my mind: what would it be like showing on the grass? As the time went by, I had to simply wait to get answers to these questions and sometimes the answer I got might not have been the exact one I wanted.

there, I felt like everyone had been there and done that before, and I was a fish out of water. My friend Deni Hird and I were both first timers, but, with the best of intentions and dreams, we dove into it together. After all, we’d been anticipating these two days for months.
