the City and State of New York and riding on it in the Park has been my wish and my passion. It’s a wish to be shared; I’m sure, by many children for generations to come.”

“Completing this Carousel,” says a smiling Jane, “giving it to

Japan paints and artists’ oils, and re-leafed in pure 24k gold and palladium.” “The horses were finally fully embellished with the replacement of

missing faceted jewels, round beveled mirrors and delicate pin striping according to their original 1922 design and color palette. Hundreds of old beveled mirrors were restored and reglazed. The Carousel was totally rewired and dazzles with an amazing 1200 lights. The entire structural and mechanical system has been impeccably rehabilitated- degreased, cleaned, gears remade where necessary, and an upgraded motor installed. Electrically and mechanically, the Carousel is in brand new, mint condition.” “Completing this Carousel,” says a smiling Jane, “giving it to the City

and State of New York and riding on it in the Park has been my wish and my passion. It’s a wish to be shared; I’m sure, by many children for generations to come.” The horses are now looking pretty good: Their glass eyes glitter; they have brass tags denoting their fine lineage, the Philadelphia Toboggan

Company; they’re costumed in sweet sherbet colors of peach and tan- gerine. There’s a palomino here, a bay there, a line of ponies. Each is different: one, perhaps an American Indian pony, has two feathers on its decorative, or what carousel aficionados call its “romantic” side, the one that is visible to spectators. Another has a shawl across its back and a clutch of roses at the saddle, a Gypsy woman’s horse, no doubt. "I was committed to bringing the Carousel back to what it was and I

am fortunate to have been in the unique position of accomplishing this goal," says a nostalgic Jane as she turns to her desk and works on her next labor of love. How fortunate to have people like the Walentas who are so dedicated

to such a giant undertaking…and seeing it through many decades as it finally came to its beautiful final location in New York. After 22 years of labor and love, he children who now ride these magnificent horses in this magical location are sharing the ride of a lifetime with older generations who enjoyed the same spin around the circle many decades ago...all thanks to the love commitment of Jane and David Walentas.
