Issue 148
October 2013
Well, for the last few months I have invited other folk to do my job. It’s clever really. I’d like to say that after my brief meeting with Alan Partridge, he whisked me away to a Best Western near Sleaford for 9 days, complete with Kelloggs Variety Box / Grapefruit Juice / Billy Bear Sausage Meat Continental Breakfast. However, that was only in my most moist of dreams, and in reality, I took on the role of sub-editor for my guest editors, mostly taking orders and fulfilling their every desire. Tey could’ve been more adventurous with me, really. I subject my loyal freelancers to a monthly licking of my computer mouse ball and between my keyboard keys, just to keep them ticking over. It was a heady summer, one with many of us spending them in Festi-Land, getting addled on Sponsor Juice and listening to Te Post Ironic Noise Merchants or some such other troubadours. I must say a MASSIVE thank you to our superb guest editors, Sophie, Andi and Annie and an even bigger thank you to our unsung heroes of the summer, our interns Hanna Huzel Steele, Bea Howard and Will Nixon, who gave up sunlight and their holidays to listen to me barking at them. Tey were AMAZING and I recommend everyone gets an intern as a pet. I’m not even gonna use this space for something useful like telling you what’s within these pages. You’ve got fingers haven’t you? Flick ‘em.
