still remember the early days of specialty retail—carts with actual wagon wheels on them, a lack of phone lines and electricity in the common area. It sometimes felt as if the enterprise was an afterthought. As we


have witnessed, over the years, the specialty retail industry has become a powerful force to contend with –a breathtaking array of products and services; eye-catching sleek kiosks; and an umbrella so broad that specialty retail now makes up a signifi cant portion of a shopping center’s leasing budget. As the retail industry has weathered economic storms, specialty retail has


emerged strong and vibrant – willing to embrace anew an array of exciting concepts, stretch the defi nition of what specialty retail even means.
