Life, Health & Home Why you SHOULD rock the boat (in the kindest way…)

SEBASTOPOL, CA. ~ Many of us are taught early on to not “rock the boat” by angry or extremely emotional parents, teachers or other loved ones that took their emotions out on us. This often manifested in behaviors like try- ing to stay invis- ible, saying what others wanted to hear and not really speaking our truth. As a child, this is a well intentioned defense mecha- nism of the Ego to keep you safe. As an adult however it is a very destructive and disempower- ing habit that no longer serves its purpose effectively. In adulthood, placating,
avoiding, sacrificing your desires and other behaviors that are created to not upset loved ones, co-workers, boss- es etc. are not only unhealthy for you, they are unhealthy for the recipient of your behav- ior as well. Though there often feels like a short-term
advantage to compromising yourself in order to keep the other person happy (which usually is keeping their emo- tions directed away from you or a little longer!), the long- term disadvantag- es are major or all involved.
First of all, not “rocking the boat” is based on the premise that you need to con- trol something or someone outside of you in order to maintain well- being.
The only
problem is that we never completely control others and outside circumstances so ultimately our attempt will fail and we are blasted yet again. So, the most empow- ering choice is to find your power and well being inside and let others and the out- side world do what they do. Then, you can focus on the essence of what you want and attract that in a whole variety of other ways that doesn’t
involve them. Another point that is impor- tant is to understand that when you don’t speak your truth to another and create the appro- priate boundaries, you are also disempowering them.
What
you are teaching them is that their dysfunctional behavior is the only way to get what they want and again that some- thing outside of them needs to change in order for them to be ok. By doing what is right for you – speaking your truth, putting up boundaries, finding your wellbeing within – then you teach by your example and empower them to ulti- mately find their power within as well.

Cinnabar Theater Launches New Arts Access Programs For Local Youth
PETALUMA, CA – Cinnabar Theater, the beloved professional theater in Sonoma County, has announced two new programs to ensure that local youth can access the arts. With the decline in public funding for arts educa- tion
in the schools, non-profit
organizations like Cinnabar play a critical role in the commu- nity. Cinnabar is responding to this challenge and continuing its commitment to local students by launching two exciting new ini- tiatives:
• Friday Night Live: This sea- son, thanks to a generous grant from the Community Foundation Sonoma County, Cinnabar is debuting Friday Night Live. This new program lets middle-school and high-school students see the first performance of a profes- sional show for only $9 – so live theater becomes a viable alterna- tive to movies and other enter- tainment options. This deeply discounted ticket also includes a pre-show dinner and social hour in Cinnabar’s studio and an edu- cational presentation with a pro- fessional artist to put the show in context. By exposing youth to a range of art – from plays to
cabaret, from musicals to opera – Friday Night Live introduces a new generation to the power of live performance. This fall, Friday Night Live takes place on September 6 for “The Pavilion” and October 18 for “La Cage aux Folles.”
• Classes for kids: Every semes- ter, Cinnabar offers a variety of fun and educational activities for children between the ages of 4 and 12. The fall session of class- es for kids starts on September 16. With these classes, parents know their kids are engaged in positive and productive after- school activities. Children learn valuable life skills that are essen- tial to success in society and the new economy, such as creativity, collaboration,
communication,
self-confidence, empathy, and leadership.
All these events take place in the iconic red schoolhouse perched atop a grassy hill on the outskirts of Petaluma. This inti- mate venue is the perfect place for young people to discover the thrill of theater and to immerse themselves in the original 3-D, high-definition style of storytell- ing. Cinnabar Theater is located at 3333 Petaluma Boulevard North, just off Highway 101 and only minutes from historic down- town Petaluma. There’s ample parking up on the hill… and a friendly herd of goats grazing in the neighboring field.
