clinic in barn PAUL Creasey has applied to build a replacement barn for use as a chiropody clinic and storage of machinery and hay atWindmill Cottage, Lenham Heath. The scheme involves de- molishing a barn used for agricultural storage. A sup- porting statement said the clinic is “a very well-estab- lished local business, run by the owner of the property”. It added: “The proposed design of the barn is in keep- ing with the area, and has no detrimental effect, both in its proposed use and visually to the local area and the neigh- bouring properties.” Maidstone Council will de- termine the planning appli- cation.

Success for street dance pair


TWO break-dancing brothers have taken their next step on the road to success. Jordan and Sasha Shepherd


from Sandling were part of the Great Britain team that became European Champions in Amster- dam in June and are now on their way to theworld championships in the autumn. The boys, who are pupils at San-


dling Primary School, started out dancing in Maidstone but for the past two years have been dancing with some of the top names in Britain’s street dancing scene. They dance with Clique - the cur-


rent British champions – and train withsomeof the topnameson the British street scene dance circuit. In October they travel to Copen-


hagen for theworld championship and proud mum Angelika Shep- herd is now busy trying to raise funds to help the team on itsway.


THERE are enough taxis in Maidstone and they provide a good service, according to a sur- vey carried out by an independ- ent company for the council. Research company Amey studied the movement of taxis around the town’s various ranks and spoke to customers. The conclusion was that there was no unmet demand for taxis.


She is hopeful some local busi- nesses will step forward with of- fers of sponsorship. She said: “It costs £1,500 per


child to take part in the competi- tions in Europe –mostly on trans- port. These children are the ‘best of British’ and really need our sup- port. They have worked so hard to reach this level in such a short space of time.” She has set up a website in the
