New classrooms approved Complaint is

SIX new classrooms which will enable the expansion of St John’s Primary School in Grove Green, have been given the go ahead by county councillors. The scheme, also includes a

hall extension, internal alter- ations, the provision of 16 extra car parking spaces, a grass-crete access to the side and rear of the school and extra hard play space. This is the second phase of development which will allow the school, in ProvenderWay, to increase from one to two forms of entry, to help ease the de- mand for primary places in the Bearsted area. Phase one, a two-

classroom extension and new playground area, is under con- struction and should be ready by September. The latest application will provide 675 sq m of extra floor- space for the school, which re- cently attained academy status. KCC’s planning applications committee was told that two residents had expressed con- cern that the increase in staff and pupils would exacerbate traffic and parking problems, and disappointment that a drop-off area within the school site was not proposed. However, it was considered

that the road could accommo- date on-street parking. A drop- off had been considered, but could only provide for six vehi- cles, and a larger space would have involved the loss of trees on the frontage. The school and the PCSO had

also asked for the drop-off to be removed from the scheme due to concerns about vehicle move- ments and pedestrians. Councillors imposed several conditions including restric- tions on working hours during building and measures to pre- vent mud and debris being taken onto the road.

resolved A CODE of conduct complaint lodged against Cllr Barbara Dunford has been dropped fol- lowing a 90-minute meeting with Maidstone Council. Bearsted parish council chair-

man Cllr Richard Ash and Cllr Dunford met with representa- tives of the borough council to discuss the complaint, filed by Wendy Licence, wife of Cllr Geoff Licence and mother to Cllr Tim Licence. In a statement to the parish meeting, Cllr Ash said: “The sit- uation has been resolved. Details will come in due course in a let- ter from Paul Fisher at MBC.”
