Progress on allotments WORK on the allotment site south of Boxley village is making good progress, with the help of a team from the Royal Engineers, based at Invicta Park Barracks, Maidstone, and volunteers. Cllr Bob Hinder, leader of the working group on the project, reports that thewater pipe has been installed and the pressure checked and found satisfactory for the needs of the site. Work has now started on con- structing the vehicle access. The St Paul’s Scout Group car park will be repaired

at the end of the project, as a thank you for the unit’s support. Pictured rightare Sgt JonathanNottandmembersof

Garage fears CONCERNS were expressed to the environment committee over a planning application for the erection of an extra multi- vehicle garage/storage building at The Oaks, Westfield Sole Road. After lengthy discussion, it

was agreed that, while the parish council did not have valid planning reasons to ob- ject, it should express concerns to Maidstone Council regarding possible future business use. This would attract traffic

along Westfield Sole Road, which is already a heavily-used country lanewith limited pass- ing places and no footways.

School events CLLRS Kaz Macklin and Paul Dengate represented the parish council at Tunbury School fair. The council’s display boards,

in keeping with the fair’s “Mad Hatter” theme, attracted some attention. Cllr Macklin reported that a volunteer had come forward for Speedwatch and members of the public had expressed inter- est in the range of activities and clubs at Beechen Hall. Cllrs Macklin and Vic Davies

had also attended St John’s School fete.

Extraction plan BOXLEY Parish Council has applied to install a replacement cooker and kitchen fume ex- traction system at Beechen Hall, Wildfell Close, Walder- slade. Maidstone Council will determine the application.

ward is in knowing that you are helping your local community and workingwith a small team working for a better Boxley.

Under-representation on the council by resi-

dents of South Ward which includes Boxley, Grove Green and Sandling is of great concern to councillors. Borough sorry for funding error BOXLEY Council will have £230 less to spend after a funding error by Maidstone Council. The borough notified the parish council after its audit team iden-

tified a mistake in the finance allocated under the parish services scheme. Money was allocated for grounds maintenance according to pop- ulation count. Initially the borough used 2001 figures, but later changed this to 2007 as these were most recently available. How- ever, Boxley’s population apparently decreased between those years, leading to a reduction in funding of £230. ,The borough council apologised for any inconvenience caused by this error.

Potential development in parish THE council has learned of local concerns about the possible de- velopment of 25 homes in Sandling village. This land and other areas in the parish have been submitted by landowners to the borough council for consideration for ear- marking for development. This was in response to the council’s request for sites for inclusion in the new Local Plan. A Maidstone Council public consultation is expected in Octo- ber/November. The parish council will advertise the consultation when it starts and will include details on its website.

In advance of this, the parish council’s environment commit- tee received a presentation from the agent.Anumber of issues re- lating to the stream feeding Vin- ter’s Park lake and traffic were raised but the committee did not express any views on the merits of the proposal.
