Naming Ceremonies
A Naming Ceremony is a very special way of celebrat- ing the birth of a child or of welcoming an adopted or stepchild into a new family or new family environ- ment.
A Naming Ceremony is an opportunity to declare, before family and friends, your promise to be as good a parent as you can. It is also for adult friends or rela- tives, chosen by you, to pledge their special relation- ship with your child. However, it is not just babies who can have a Naming Ceremony, you may wish to include your older children. A Naming Ceremony is, in every sense, a unique occasion for everyone to feel in- volved and to offer their support in your child’s future development.
Making your own promises to your child and giving the reasons for choosing your child’s name, makes the ceremony even more special, and grandparents and supporting adults who will pledge their love and sup- port for the child can also play a part in this occasion.
The ceremony, provided by Monmouthshire Registra- tion Service, can be personalised by you and we have included a number of options within the ceremony. As you make your choices, you will be creating a unique event that you and all your guests will remember. You
may also wish to give your child a special gift during the ceremony to mark the occasion and for them to treasure when they are older. It can also provide an ideal opportunity for you and your partner to renew your vows or make promises to each other if you so wish and to welcome adopted children, stepchildren and stepparents into the family.
The ceremony is conducted by a fully trained Cel- ebrant, and will have no legal status. We are happy to conduct the ceremony any day of the week at a mutu- ally convenient time. There are a number of venues available for your ceremony, either a Register Office, approved premises such as hotels or even in the open air. It is the responsibility of the couple to arrange the time and date of their ceremony with the venue of their choice. A fee may be charged by the venue for the use of the room in which the ceremony is to take place. This fee will be in addition to the ceremony fee.
At the conclusion of the ceremony you will be asked to sign a record of the ceremony and you will be pre- sented with a commemorative certificate, as a keepsake of the day.
