Town Talk

ANGELA Henwood had a surprising way of celebrating her 50th birthday last year – she ran a half marathon. And, as a result, she was persuaded to run in this year’s London Marathon. Angela, who lives at Maple Close, Larkfield, completed the course in the highly respectable time of 4hrs 33mins 53secs, “I’ve always done a bit of running, but never run a proper

race,” she said. “I thought it would be an achievement to run the Paddock Wood half marathon.” Angela works at the Five Pointed Star public house in West Malling High Street. Staff and customers were talking about some- one running the London Marathon and Angela was given “an op- portunity you can’t turn down.” A customer works on one of the water stations on the course, which guarantees an entry. She started training in a gym and going on short runs, grad-

ually building up to 20 miles at a time and completing half marathons every week day for four weeks before the day. Angela’s parents, Les and Chris Searing,

live in Taylor Road, Snodland and were fea- tured in Town Talk in December 2009 cele- brating their golden wedding. She attended St Katherine’s Primary School and also went to Holmesdale Technology College. She will also be remembered working in the NatWest Bank in Snodland High Street for eight years. She was supported on the run by husband Tony and sons Chris and Matt.
