Town Talk

A CARE home which specialises in looking after people suffering with dementia has ap- pealed for local people to help. Karan Richards, manager of Pilgrims View, Roberts Road, Snodland, is looking for vol- unteers who are willing to go into the Avante Care & Support home to chat with residents, help with gardening, play games or take them for walks. “We are trying to integrate with the com- munity more and get our residents out into the community more,” she said. Town Talk reported in December 2011 that

a “pub” had been opened in the home for residents and visitors, complete with bar, comfy chairs, a key board, darts, dominoes and other table top games.

“Unfortunately a KCC inspection found it to

be unsafe and the whole bar, fixtures and fit- tings had to be removed,” said Karan. “We are having new flooring, a door and hopefully Shepherd Neame will provide us with some pub memorabilia, so it can be re-opened.” She said the home had adopted the Eden philosophy, which aims to bring meaningful and fulfilling activity, reinforcing skills the res- idents have and encouraging them to live a normal home life. An open day will be held on June 21 with

cream teas and entertainment and Karan hopes as many local residents as possible will attend. If anyone is interested in giving support she can be contacted on 01634 241906.

Scouts bowled over by club’s donation

SNODLAND Short Mat Bowls Club has donated £781 to the 1st Snod- land Scout Group, towards its new headquarters. President Don Cribben and sec-

retary, Margaret Champion, are pictured presenting the cheque to group chairman, Steve Cameron, accompanied by Cub Scout leader Sarah Hood, Scout Nathaniel Hood (13), and Beaver Oliver Wagon (6). The money was raised at the

club’s annual charity competition and Steve thanked the members, saying the money was much ap- preciated and would be a big help towards the project.
