Town Talk Co-op trolley dash

Local news for Snodland and Halling An audience with ‘Chopper’ Harris

AN AUDIENCE of football sup- porters was entertained by one of the games’ “hard men”, Ron “Chopper” Harris at Snodland Working Men’s Club. Supported by an excellent co- median, Mickey Pugh, he talked about his career in football, held a question and answer session

Laurence with Lucy, Barry and the boys

THE first trolley dash organised by the Co-operative Group store in High Street, Snodland resulted in £400 for charity and £100 worth of goods for a lucky family. Laurence Hernandez, manager of the shop, which is next to

the library, had the idea of selling £1 raffle tickets to 500 cus- tomers to support the company’s charity of the year, Carers Trust for young adult carers. Lucy Arnold of Church Field, Snodland bought the winning ticket. Assisted by husband Barry and their two sons, they had oneminute to fill their trolley. Kiosk and alcohol products were not admitted and they were not allowed to run. Lucy had planned her route but said: “I dreamed I came in

last night and they had moved everything round!” The event was so successful that Laurence is planning to hold another trolley dash.

Numbers Useful

SNODLAND Working Men’s Club in Holborough Road has changed its name to Snodland Sports & Social Club. The decision was made at an extra-ordinary general meeting following the annual general meeting when a number of out- dated rules were changed. Club president, Paul Hickmott, accepted that a few “traditional- ists” were upset by the change and said: “We are trying to move the club into the future and will try and attract more people to

and was photographed with the winners of his memorabilia auction. Ron is pictured with a number

of Snodland Town Football Club reserves who won the Kent Jun- ior Cup Group ‘C’ and the Quar- ter Centenary Cup Group B trophy last season.
