Learn how to cut through the marketing clutter and really read labels. Is that loaf of bread fresh, made with only whole grains, and perishable? Or is it bleached white-flour bread that is processed with a little bit of whole grains so that they can slap a misleading label on it? I advise my patients to avoid putting items in their gro- cery carts such as “cheese foods,” brightly colored gummy “fruit- like” snacks, or chicken nuggets cut into the shape of dinosaurs that barely resemble poultry. The human body has not evolved to handle junk food, GMOs, and chemicals. We teach our children how to eat, and for better or worse, these habits can last a lifetime.
