Many Paths to Peace
to awaken the Global Heart and invoke peace. by Linda Sechrist
“For women, peace is not just the absence of war, but safety and security for their children and grandchildren and freedom from terrorists of all kinds, including those who
represent their own government or commit domestic violence upon their families. A mother with global consciousness knows that it is not only her children and grandchildren or the children in her community, or even in her country, but everybody’s children, everywhere, who are deserving of a good and safe life…
The dormant power of women together is the untapped resource needed by humanity and by the planet.”

Urgent Message from Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World.
T
he idea of Mother’s Day was ini- tially conceived during the 1870s, starting with Mothers’ Day for
Peace, Julia Ward Howe’s attempt to cele- brate women’s vital role in peacemaking. The concept, which has morphed into a commercialized celebration that honors maternal bonds with cards, flowers and other presents, is celebrated on various days in 44 countries around the world. In Southwest Florida, local women are joining a global sisterhood that is working to restore the original inten- tion of a Mother’s Day for Peace. Across tribes and nations, women, along with organizations such as We Are Enough, Gather the Women, SageWoman magazine, Grandmothers Circle the Earth Foundation, It’s All About We,
36 Collier/Lee Counties
The Heart to Lead and many others, are encouraging Mother’s Day observances that unite women and reclaim their power as peacekeepers of the Earth. Ann Smith, a member of the board of directors at Happehatchee Center, Inc., an eco-spirituality center in Estero, says, “One of the things that we are en- couraging women and men everywhere to do on May 12, from 1 to 2 p.m. EST, is to recite the Mothers’ Day Peace Prayer, which originates from a sacred partnership between the women of North and South America that are help- ing to live out of an ancient prophecy: When the eagle (represented by North America) and the condor (represented by South America) fly together, there will be peace.”

Mother’s Day Peace Prayer
Together let us invoke the power of unconditional love and commitment from all the Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunties, and all women, circling the Earth,
To awaken the Global Heart, by lifting our voices in a chorus for peace.
We will move forward to influence humanity for a more caring, just, tolerant and peaceful world. Let it be so.
Although the prophecy can be inter- preted in several ways, many people agree that it foretells the sharing of indigenous knowledge with the tech- nologies of science, the balancing of yin and yang, and the bridging of northern and southern cultures. How- ever, most powerful is the message it offers about consciousness; it says that we have entered a time when we can benefit from the many diverse ways of
